One of the group who came to our house was a judge and I asked him if he knew of a lawyer called Igor Judge who was at school with me in Malta and his family were close friends of my family. His mother is Rosa Micallef Judge. I was told that he was well on the way to being promoted to the Court of Appeal. It is wonderful to note that, at the present day of writing, he is now Lord Igor Judge, the Chief Justice of England.
Malta seems to have cropped up all through the conversation and in prayer. The place where St. Paul had landed seemed to be our destination. This made everything much clearer in our minds and we decided to tackle the idea of a return to the island of my birth. I did so very reluctantly as Malta held many unpleasant memories for me at that time.
I remember being in the staff room and Fr. Stephen made some comment about me being a ‘lifer’ to which my reply was, “no way! I’m nomadic”. One of the staff pointed out that I was giving up a secure job and there was no guarantee that, at my age, anything equally good would turn up. I replied that I trusted in the Lord to guide me and if God so chose, it could all be settled in 15 minutes.
I went home and told Ursula about this conversation and a few minutes later someone phoned to tell me he wanted to buy our house at an extremely good price. The phone rang again, and it was an invitation to attend an interview for a school in Malta. Again, the phone rang and our insurance agency told us they had decided to refund a good sum of money which had been in dispute.
